Brief

The client had an under performing conventional cooler, restricted by space constraints, operating under vacuum conditions. They needed better performance, both with higher flow rate and lower temperature, within existing pressure drop restrictions and with no additional space available.

Materials & Spec

  • Stainless Steel 304/304L throughout
  • Full bolt torque analysis on tube sheet and girth flanges
  • ASME VIII DIV 1, UKCA Marked, CAT III Module G, TEMA Class R

Outcome & Results

  • Our chemical and mechanical engineering teams analysed the client's requirements and existing performance rates.
  • Due to the size constraints, special attention had to be given to eliminating vibration, because of the high gas velocities.
  • A bespoke unit was designed that would reduce the temperature and increase the flow rate within existing pressure drop restrictions
  • Once installed, the heat exchanger almost immediately reduced the temperature by 50% whilst increasing flow rate by 30%
  • The unit was manufactured and delivered on time and in full.
